I am a Professor of English, Chair of the English Department, and affiliate faculty in the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Program at Virginia Wesleyan University. I work on nineteenth-century periodicals, Victorian literature, the British Empire, and the history of marriage. I have published articles on matrimonial advertising, the nineteenth-century Indian housewife, and the relationship between breath mints and Orientalism.
